As someone not really on Instagram but always pondering whether I should be more, this was a really interesting chat, thank you :)

I also wrote a piece at the end of last year touching on the social media-esque bits of Substack that we might find creeping in, and also focused on trying to lean into to what feels right for th time and energy we have.

Here in case of interest! ☺️

Sorry for the delay in replying Lauren, what a fantastic article on Smallstack. Love the comments on it too. Such a great piece. Left a little comment :) I love the joy that it brings to connect with with everyone intentionally. One of the questions I have is how to do this as our readership grows? I always fear missing a comment, because I value the conversation so much. It's such a good one to ponder xx

Thanks Anna, and no worries at all - as I talk about in the piece, we get to these things when we can 😉

It's such a good point - and I sometimes feel the same, even though my readership is relatively small, I tend to want to jump on a comment so as not to miss it. But then when I turn in for an 'engagement' session if you like, I scroll back through any notifications from the week to check anything I might have missed.

Will be different for us all I think depending on our schedules etc, but good to ponder what feels right! Xx

Hi Lauren - thanks for sending that link, it was a really interesting and relatable read. The conversation around dopamine is such an interesting and nuanced one and I certainly have experienced the 'buzz' you describe and the dissatisfaction that arises when something doesn't deliver. If you're interested in learning more about the role dopamine plays in our use of these apps, I can recommend Dr Faye Begeti's book 'The Phone Fix'. She's a neuroscientist and neurologist and I found her explanation of the role of dopamine in habit formation and reward really illuminating and helpful in terms of how I navigate my attachment to, and use of, these platforms because they belong in service to us but it can so easily tip in the other direction! Thanks again for listening and taking the time to comment ❤️
